Bob Wentz Park, located at 7144 Comanche Trail in Austin, Texas, is a popular 211-acre park situated on the shores of Lake Travis in the scenic Hill Country. It is well-known for water sports such as windsurfing, sailing, SCUBA diving, and swimming, as well as for picnicking and relaxing by the lake.

The park offers several amenities including barbecue grills, covered picnic tables, restrooms, showers, a sand volleyball court, drinking fountains, and a pavilion with a lake view that requires reservations. The pavilion is wheelchair accessible and features tables, chairs, a fireplace (bring your own firewood), ceiling fans, electrical outlets, and running water but no air conditioning.

The walk down to the water can be a little challenging. I’d highly recommend a camping cart to haul your gear down. Your entry options are on the west side where you can head north to get to the wrecks and platforms of Windy Point Park (currently closed), and on the east side where you can head south and treasure hunt around the swimming area of Hippie Hollow.

Bob Wentz Park has a non-motorized boat ramp, but it is currently closed due to low lake levels. Visitors should be cautious of invasive hydrilla plants near the boat launch, which pose a hazard to swimmers and windsurfers. Additionally, there is a caution about algae in the lake, and visitors are advised to avoid contact with it and prevent pets from ingesting it.

The park is open daily from 8 am to 8:30 pm, with entry closing 30 minutes before closing time. Entry fees are $5 per person (cash only), with discounts for seniors and free entry for children 12 and under and disabled veterans. Trailer parking and pavilion rentals incur additional fees.

Bob Wentz Park is known to get crowded during holiday weekends and may close to new visitors once capacity is reached to ensure a pleasant experience for all. The park is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Austin, making it a convenient outdoor destination for locals and visitors alike.
