Mansfield Dam is one of the more popular parks in the Lake Travis area scuba diving and located at 4370 Mansfield Park Rd. Austin, TX. 78732. Because of its location on the main body of Lake Travis, it serves as one of the primary access points for boating, swimming and diving.
Besides the groups of people that are enjoying boating, swimming and picnicking in the park, it’s also a very popular scuba diving destination. Lake Travis is used by many of the Texas dive shops for recreational and technical training and there’s a great reason for that. The waters around Mansfield Dam are like an amusement park for divers.
Scott Baker, Dive Instructor
A great place to train and explore. With the water levels being as low as they are it’s a long walk to the water’s edge, so take it slow. The scuba park is roped off from boats and you can easily get to 90ft (based on current lake levels).
There are four underwater dive platforms at various levels. Also, an underwater trail and compass course challenges divers to find sunken boats and the main body of a small aircraft. Not too far from the scuba area are the remnants of the Shaker Plant, which provides divers with plenty of historic dam construction material to explore. Depths around the dam can reach 180 feet!
The park is open daily from 8 am to 8:30 pm, with entry closing 30 minutes before closing time. Entry fees are $5 per person (cash only), with discounts for seniors and free entry for children 12 and under and disabled veterans. Trailer parking and pavilion rentals incur additional fees.
